About Us l Meet the Staff l Our History

Night of Peace Family Shelter has a dedicated staff that works closely with the families to oversee their progress and guide them in the move to permanent housing.

"I founded the Night Of Peace because I believe in the ancient religious concepts of Hospitality and Sanctuary.
Too many church congregations seem to care more about keeping out homeless families and single adults than about inviting them in. There is more to helping those oppressed by poverty than giving them a can of Del Monte green beans from the food pantry, helpful though this may be.

Homeless families are victims of a social system that appears often to care more about opening animal shelters than homeless shelters. We are in the grip of a terrible economic catastrophe caused simply by greed and Jesus Christ does not give us the option as Christians to pretend that caring for millions of homeless families with children is somebody else's responsibility.
At the Night Of Peace we offer a nurturing, caring environment to families who often are homeless because of domestic violence, job loss, astronomical health care expenses, arbitrary eviction, somatic and mental health problems, disability and other family crises.

I am very proud of our staff and of our volunteers, who often come to us from religious congregations committed to local mission. I invite you to join us and the Baltimore County Communities for the Homeless (BCCH) in the war to end homelessness. And if you are interested in opening a homeless shelter, let us help you. Are we on this earth to feather our own nests or to help our neighbors? Can't we care for our own needs as well as helping others who are less able to help themselves? Hundreds of men, women and children are homeless in Baltimore County every day and every night.
Please help us to help them."
-- Colin Phillips, Executive Director

“Night of Peace is a very unique shelter.  Not only is it housed in a church, but we have an intimate setting in which families are able to feel comfortable and kids are able to still be kids.  The wonderful support of our Staff, Volunteers and Board of Directors is a blessing and I am grateful to be apart of this organization.”
-- Megan Goffney, Executive Director 2008-2010

“As Ghandi quotes ‘One of the things that will destroy us is worship without sacrifice.’  Sacrificing time was a problem for me, but once I came on board with Night of Peace, it has given me my peace with time, sacrifice and the joy of helping others.  Thank you NOP. “
